Police in Nairobi are investigating a robbery incident at the home of Public Service and Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa in Loresho estate which occurred on Wednesday morning.
Three robbers are said to have attacked the home at around 1:45am and stole Ksh.1.1 million, two laptops, three phones and gold jewellery.
One of CS Jumwa’s daughters was injured on the right knee during the incident which is suspected to have been an inside job.
The Haven Estate in Loresho, Nairobi County is where detectives from Gigiri have pitched a tent for the last two days.
A police officer attached to Jumwa reported that the robbers, armed with crude weapons, entered the compound at the Haven Estate after cutting the electric perimeter wall and gained access to the house through the back door which was not locked.
They went direct to the master bedroom upstairs where they stole gold jewellery and two laptops before storming her two daughters' bedroom and robbing them of Ksh.1.1 million, three mobile phones and jewellery of unknown value before they left.
Senior officers from Gigiri Police Station visited the residence of the CS who at the time of the alleged robbery was away on official duty.
The detectives continued with the probe on Thursday and interrogated two house helps as well as Jumwa’s daughters who were in the house.
What is puzzling to the investigators is why the back door was left open at night, and how the robbers accessed the house in a well-guarded estate with at least three security guards monitoring the main gate, electric perimeter wall, and CCTV cameras.
Police say that at the time of the attack, there was no officer at the home of the CS as she had not informed them that she had acquired a house in the area.
Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei told Citizen TV that preliminary investigations point to an inside job as the attackers knew the home well and knew what they wanted.
The incident comes 18 days after two burglars raided the home of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi in Karen and stole a TV set and gas cylinder.
Police said the two robbers jumped over the perimeter fence on January 29 and accessed the compound which is guarded by an elite squad.
Police in Karen are still investigating the case.
