Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit claiming Roblox endangered children on its platform. The suit alleges that Roblox misled parents about safety measures while allowing predators to target minors. According to the lawsuit, Roblox created a space “that has become a habitual destination for child predators engaging in grooming and child sexual exploitation,” putting profits over child safety.
The lawsuit points to insufficient parental controls and delayed safety measures. Roblox reportedly only strengthened in-game protections after multiple lawsuits and critical reports, including one from Hindenburg exposing harmful content and predatory behavior. Children were allegedly exposed to grooming, pornography, and abusive speech, raising serious concerns about online safety.
If the court sides with Texas, Roblox could face hefty fines, stricter regulatory oversight, and mandatory safety reforms. Similar lawsuits, like one recently filed in Louisiana, indicate growing legal scrutiny over online platforms that cater to children. Roblox may also face reputational damage affecting user trust and engagement.
Experts advise enabling parental controls, monitoring gameplay, and educating children about online dangers. Even with safety tools, vigilance remains critical. Parents can use Roblox’s built-in privacy settings to limit interactions and report suspicious behavior immediately.
