SuperSport United overcame tough conditions to win away at Stellenbosch on Saturday and keep up their unbeaten start to the new DStv Premiership season, said coach Gavin Hunt.
They won 2-1 after trailing at halftime although they had a soft penalty award to thank for their equaliser before Grant Margeman scored their winner.
But the SuperSport coach said it had been a difficult victory, especially on a poor pitch at the Danie Craven Stadium.
“In these conditions, it was going to be a battle. It was a battle. I thought we played well at times although it was difficult to play because of the surface. But I thought we adapted.,” said Hunt.
COUNTER-ATTACKING STRATEGY
Stellenbosch had looked to catch their visitors on the counterattack.
“They played the turnover all the time with us. It upset me a little bit that we, maybe, never had enough end product. But all in all, I thought to battle away and come here, and win was good. Not many teams are going to win, I don't think, under those conditions,” he predicted.
SuperSport have now won three of their four league assignments, with a draw in the other, and have 10 points from a possible 12.
“I was quite confident we could get a result here. We're not going to lose here. I think we did enough even in the first half to create a few opportunities. We tried to play but the ball bouncing around was very difficult.
“In the second half, we dropped down a little bit which helped us a to the whole tactical thing going. If you do that, you'll get on the ball better and we did. And the game was better for us. But yeah, you have to play the conditions.”
