Spotify direct messaging is rolling out as a new feature that makes it easier than ever for users to share their favorite audio content. Both Free and Premium accounts can now send music, podcast, and audiobook recommendations without leaving the app. This update is designed to enhance how listeners connect and discover new audio content, answering a common question many users have had: “Can you message on Spotify?” Now, the answer is yes.
The new messaging option can be accessed by tapping the share icon while listening to a song, podcast, or audiobook. From there, users can select a friend to send it to directly. Spotify direct messaging works with people you’re connected to through family or group plans, or with friends you’ve interacted with on features like Blends, Jams, or Collaborative Playlists. This streamlined experience keeps recommendations within Spotify instead of spreading across texts or third-party apps.
Every message shared is saved in a dedicated Messages inbox located under the profile picture in the top-left corner of the app. Users can not only share content but also engage in 1:1 text conversations with emoji reactions, making interactions more personal and fun. Spotify confirms that these messages are protected with industry-standard encryption, ensuring privacy and security for all conversations.
Spotify direct messaging solves a long-standing need for seamless music sharing. Instead of jumping between apps, users now have one central hub for recommendations. This feature encourages more music discovery, builds stronger connections between friends, and makes Spotify a more interactive platform. Whether you’re a Free or Premium user, the ability to chat and share directly within the app enhances the overall listening experience.
