Roy Keane had a brilliant response to the chants Erling Haaland was subjected to by Manchester United fans at Old Trafford in Sunday's' 3-0 derby win.
Haaland scored his first goals in an away Manchester derby fixture, confidently slotting home a penalty before heading home from a Bernardo Silva cross at the start of the second half.
He had the chance to bag a second hat-trick in the fixture but squared for Phil Foden to make it 3-0 in the 80th minute.The 23-year-old was spurred on by taunts from United fans who brought up United legend Keane's horror tackle on dad Alf-Inge Haaland back in the 2000 derby.
United supporters chanted "Keano!" and "Haaland how's your dad?" and that a lit a fire amongst Leeds-born Haaland, who clearly enjoyed celebrating his brace.Speaking to Sky Sports, Haaland said: "I felt a little bit [of pressure before the penalty], lots of people singing to me 'Keano', I don't know why! I had the pressure.
"I scored. It was a fantastic feeling. It was a nice celebration, both of them. I had pain in my knees after the assist from Bernardo!"Keane was asked about the chants in the Sky Sports studio but joked the fans were singing for his namesake and fellow Ireland international Robbie, formerly of Spurs, Liverpool and many other sides in the Premier League.He laughed: “I don’t know... Maybe they meant ‘Robbie’ Keane.”
In his autobiography, Keane admitted that his shocking red card challenge on Haaland was premeditated and an act of revenge in response to Haaland shouting over him when he ruptured his cruciate ligament in a game against Leeds.
Keane was hit with £5,000 fine and three-match ban for the shocker of a tackle.
In last season's derby at the Etihad Stadium, a broadcaster attempted to reunite Keane and Haaland but were unsuccessful in doing so.
