The Kenya Red Cross Society on Thursday distributed food to 1,000 families at Cherab and Gotu in Ngaremara ward, Isiolo, in response to the hunger crisis.
The society's secretary general Asha Mohammed together with Airtel managing director Ashish Malhotra led the exercise.
Mohamed said the initiative is part of a larger drought response across Garissa, Marsabit, Samburu, Turkana and Wajir counties.
" 4,992 most vulnerable households in the far-flung areas of these counties will receive food through the joint intervention," Mohammed said.
"The drought has severely affected millions of people in Kenya with over 4.5 million in need of food aid."
Before the distribution programme, Mohammed and Malhotra met with Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohamed Roba.
The team discussed how they can continue to support the county in responding to the effects of drought.
