Rangers ladies team coach Musa Ndombi is confident his charges will bag maximum points in their Kenya Handball Federation league matches at Nyayo Stadium this weekend.
The Bungoma-based side will on Saturday open their season against ninth-placed Kenyatta University and then face Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat), who are eighth.
“We are so ready to start with a bang,” said coach Ndombi. “We have four matches and we expect to have all eight points in the bag despite the challenges facing the team.”
They wind up their four fixtures on Sunday with matches against unbeaten and second-placed Ulinzi Sharks and bottom-of-the-table New Hope.
Rangers men’s side, who are targeting a top-six finish in the league this year, have already made their trip to the capital, winning five of their eight games. They are tenth with 10 points.
The other women’s matches will see third-placed former national champions NCPB face Rising Stars, who have won one of their three games so far.
Reigning men’s champions NCPB will close in on leaders Ulinzi with a win over struggling Young City. The two giants remain unbeaten in the league.
The millers, who are lying second on the log with 14 points from seven games, are four points adrift of the soldiers — who have played two games more.
NCPB blanked Technical University of Kenya 49-22 behind a strong display from Brian Wekukha, William Malui and Robert Maraga.
Debutants Equity Bank made a grand start and should continue their push to recognition when they face KU, who fell 33-29 to Daystar University.
Hunters play Brian Mutunga-propelled Spartans, who had a morale-boosting but close 34-32 first league win over Engineers on Tuesday.
