President William Ruto will on Friday jet out to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ahead of the 36th Ordinary Session of the African Union Heads of State and Government Summit slated to take place from between February 17 and 19.
In a statement, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed noted that climate change, intra-African trade and the continent's state of security will be some of the issues that will be deliberated on by the heads-of-state during the summit.
"Additionally, peace and security in the continent, climate change, food, and health security will be discussed," said Mohamed.
"As a champion for climate action, President Ruto will advocate for Africa's potential to lead the world and demonstrate that the continent can industrialize, thrive, and prosper – in a low carbon and sustainable manner."
As the Chair and Coordinator of the Committee of the African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), President Ruto is also expected to moderate a meeting to review the outcomes and implications of last year’s COP27 for Africa.
"The President will also invite the leadership of the continent and the world to the Climate Action Summit in Nairobi, to be held between 4-6 September 2023," said Mohamed.
