The Premier League could replay Tottenham vs Liverpool if an appointed commission rules the match officials and VAR breached the laws of the game following Luis Diaz's disallowed goal.
Liverpool suffered a crushing 2-1 defeat against Spurs in a controversial VAR-filled fixture last Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp's team were reduced to nine men when Curtis Jones was shown a red card following a contentious VAR review. Diogo Jota was also sent off after picking up two cautions following his introduction in the second-half.
Spurs went onto score a winner deep, deep into stoppage time after Joel Matip converted into his own net.The game, however, was marred by officials ruling out Luis Diaz's legitimate strike in the first-half.
Audio of the incident has since been released, with fans spotting a damning part of PGMOL's VAR upload.
The VAR audio came after Liverpool submitted a formal request to PGMOL to receive the footage as the club said they would "explore the range of options available, given the clear need for escalation and resolution."
Liverpool have not asked for the game to be replayed, but the Premier League's own rules state such a decision is possible.That's according to sports lawyer Stephen Taylor Heath, who claims Liverpool could end up lobbying for their game against Spurs to be replayed.
"Rule L18 outlines that the Premier League board has the power to order a league match to be replayed provided that recommendation to that effect has been made by a commission under rule W51," he told Mirror Football."In addition to this, under rule W1, the Premier League’s board has the power to inquire about any suspected breach of rules, including those made by a match official, while rule N4 ensures that each match official agrees to be bound by the laws of the game as well as any protocols and FA rules.
"There is therefore a possibility that Liverpool could lobby the Premier League board to convene a commission which would have the power, among others, to order the match to be replayed.
"To mount a general legal case outside of the Premier League regulations, a starting point would normally have to be to establish a contractual nexus between the club and the officials that has been breached or a duty of care and negligence causing loss."
