A total of 28 teams will take part in the third edition of Huduma handball tournament scheduled for this weekend at the Technical University of Mombasa
Tournament coordinator Brian Were said among the teams that have confirmed their participation are men's defending champions Machakos Legends Handball Club.
Other teams include hosts Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), Mtongwe-based Kenya Navy, Pirates, Pwani University, Kilifians, Malindi Masters, Kenya Medical Training College Port Reitz, Ganze, Mariakani Youth, KESSRA and Kaya Tiwi.
In the women’s category, last year’s winners Mtongwe are ready to defend their title but face stiff competition from hosts Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), Pwani University, White House, Moi Forces Girls, St Charles Lwanga, and newcomers Kaya Tiwi.
“We expect more teams to confirm their participation by Friday when we shall do the draws and fixtures,” said Were.
The tournament is sponsored by Mombasa County Government. The top three teams in each category will receive trophies and medals.
At the same time, Kisumu Academy has been handed a tough pool in the Super Cup Challenge Mashujaa Edition organised by Victoria Handball Super League. The tournament is scheduled for this weekend at Asumbi Teachers Training College.
Kisumu Academy will face God Marera, Asumbi Club, and Kachumbari in Pool ‘A’ while Pool ‘B’ has Maseno School, Mititi Boys, Kanyawanga, and Otaro.
Homa Bay HC headline Pool ‘C’ which also features Manyatta, Grounders Men, and Kisumu County. Soweto HC, Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho, Asumbi TTC, and Nyarongi are in pool ‘D’.
In the women’s category, KAJ Ladies, Ulanda Girls, Asumbi TTC, and God Marera will battle it out in Pool ‘A’ while Pool ‘B’ features Kisumu Academy, Grounders Ladies, Asumbi Girls 'B', and Maidens.
Pool ‘C’ has Asumbi Girls 'A', St Stephen’s Usingo, and Mititi Girls.
