Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala unleashed a 9.86-second world lead after an epic run at the second Athletics Kenya track and field competition in Nairobi.
It was the African record holder’s first outdoor competition this season and moved into Saturday’s final where he revealed he will target to lower that time.
"We came here for business, the target was to try and hit 9.80 at the heats and I am optimistic I can achieve that on the next race," Omanyala said.
The in-form Omanyala broke his own 60m indoor record twice in a week when he competed in a series of indoor tour in France last week.
"The indoor tour was very successful since it has really helped me to fine tune my start. I am glad I can now pick up at around 30-40m which is advantageous for me," said Omanyala.
Omanyala also revealed his plans for the 2023 season with a world championships title on his sights.
"This is just the start of the season andat the end of it my target is to win the world title and the Diamond League trophy and I am glad my body is responding well," said Omanyala.
The weekend meeting that ends on Saturday also doubles up as trials for under-18/under-20 East Africa Championships slated for next month in Tanzania.
