KCB RFC Coach Curtis Olago said there is room for improvement despite a 45-0 demolition of Harlequins in the Impala Floodlit quarterfinals on Saturday.
The defending champions, who are chasing a 10th title, got off to a quick start, leading 19-0 at the interval but Olago said they are still looking at improving all facets of play at this pre-season tournament.
"Our aim in this competition is to sharpen our team as we gear up for the 2023/2024 Kenya Cup season. We want to test the new players and work on areas we feel we need to improve," said Olago.
"I am not focusing so much on defending our title, but should we emerge victorious, it will be an amazing feat ahead of the Kenya Cup."
Skipper Griffin Musila said they were happy with the performance but were expecting a tough test from Nondies in the semifinal on Saturday.
“I am happy with today’s performance as the boys’ valiant display sent a strong message to our opponents. We are going back to the den to prepare for Nondies, a good side that gave us a lot of problems during last year's final,” reckoned Musila.
KCB beat Nondies 20-3.
Musila led the scoring for the bankers with William Opaka, Bob Muhati, Davies Chenge, Elvis Olukusi, and Darwin Mukidza on the scoresheet too.
The second semifinal will pitt Menengai Oilers and Blak Blad.
Oilers crushed hosts Impala 53-15 while Blak Blad edged Strathmore Loes 17-13.
Oilers coach Gibson Weru was satisfied with the team's attacking structure as they tore Impala open in a nine-try romp. They led 27-7 at the interval.
"I'm delighted with a win in our first pre-season game. We came out to play and I am happy with how we executed the setpiece. Our scrum, lineout, and attack were all in sync and it puts us in the right frame of mind for the semifinal,” said Weru.
