ODM leaders in Kilifi County have hailed party leader Raila Odinga for selecting Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi to lead Azimio in the bipartisan talks with the government.
Mnyazi a first-time MP elected on ODM ticket will sit in the National dialogue that aims at resolving the political crisis that led to demonstrations in the past three weeks.
The leaders were led by Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation Chairperson in Kilifi County Witness Tsuma.
They called on Muslims and Christians to pray for peace in the country during this holy month of Ramadhan and Easter celebrations.
Addressing journalists at the Malindi MP’s office she said they expect the bipartisan talks between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza to be peaceful so that a permanent solution is reached.
“We pray that the dialogue be peaceful. We hope they will sit together and resolve all the contentious issues. We do not want to see more demonstrations, we want peace so that Kenya moves forward strongly,” she said.
Asha Issa alias Mama Solo thanked Raila for believing in Mnyazi in ODM until she won the Malindi parliamentary seat.
She said they were saddened by the way the Malindi legislator was mishandled by the Police during the demonstrations.
“Raila has really helped us as a nation, he is the father of devolution. Had it not been for him even people with physical challenges would not be recognized today,” she said.
Esther Kache from Kilifi North Constituency said Raila has fought hard for democracy in the country and is still at the forefront of fighting for justice for people.
She said the ODM party leaders should continue with the spirit because living standards have gone up and people are struggling to make ends meet.
“We are happy in the manner in which Raila is fighting to ensure people get justice,” she said.
Kache hailed the team that resolved to include Amina in the Bipartisan negotiation team as she is strong and has proved the true leader of the people.
“She is a heroine and is fighting for the rights of the people and her party (ODM), we request that she also be included in the national seats of the county,” she said.
