It’s official: Nvidia’s GeForce Now is upgrading to RTX 5080 GPUs and opening a floodgate of new games this September. For cloud gaming fans, this marks one of the biggest leaps in power since the service’s last major refresh two and a half years ago.
Subscribers will soon be able to rent what’s essentially a cloud-powered RTX 5080 with 48GB of memory, DLSS 4, and all the horsepower needed to stream near-maxed-out PC games. Whether you’re playing on a phone, Mac, PC, Chromebook, TV, or set-top box, this upgrade will be available for $20 a month.
Alongside the RTX 5080 upgrade, Nvidia is introducing Install-to-Play, a long-awaited feature that allows users to install supported games instantly without waiting for Nvidia’s curation process.
This means the GeForce Now library will double overnight. According to Nvidia product marketing director Andrew Fear, more than 2,300 Steam Cloud Play titles will be instantly available once the feature rolls out. From that point, any publisher who enables the Steam Cloud Play option can make their games and demos playable on GFN from day one.
The upgrade to RTX 5080 GPUs isn’t just about raw performance — it’s about future-proofing cloud gaming. With DLSS 4, smoother frame generation, and higher memory capacity, GeForce Now is positioning itself as the most powerful mainstream cloud gaming service.
And with the Install-to-Play feature unlocking thousands of titles, the service is set to offer more choice than ever. While not every PC game will be supported, Nvidia is aiming to drastically reduce wait times for new releases to hit the platform.
By combining raw GPU power with a massive expansion of its game library, Nvidia’s GeForce Now upgrade to RTX 5080 GPUs and new Install-to-Play system could reshape the competitive cloud gaming landscape.
Gamers looking for more flexibility, higher performance, and a broader library now have plenty of reasons to keep an eye on Nvidia’s September rollout.
