The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has advertised the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following the oncoming expiration term of incumbent CEO Dr. Peter Kamunyo.
In a statement on Thursday, NHIF board Chairperson Eng. Michael Kamau said the recruitment exercise would be done in line with the current government’s agenda in regard to the transformation of the Health sector.
Dr Kamunyo’s term comes to an end next month.
“The employment contract of the Chief Executive Officer of NHIF, Dr Peter Kamunyo, comes to an end on 14," April 2023,” read the statement.
“In light of the above and aware of the major reforms underway at the Fund as part of the Kenya Kwanza's transformative agenda, the Board has decided to open up the position of Chief Executive Officer for a competitive recruitment exercise.”
As the Board commends Kamunyo for his service, it noted that the recruitment process to fill other positions would be announced at a later date.
“The recruitment to fill all vacant positions will commence in due course. The Board takes this opportunity to thank Dr Peter Kamunyo for his service,” stated the NHIF board.
Last month, Health Cabinet Secretary Wafula Nakhumicha revealed that NHIF would soon be rebranded to National Social Health Insurance Fund (NSHIF) in a bid to enable every Kenyan to access medical services throughout the country under Universal Health Care.
President William Ruto during the run-up to the General Elections last year promised to ensure all Kenyans have free health coverage if elected.
