Newcastle might have accidentally aided Chelsea’s transfer pursuit of Moises Caicedo after the Magpies agreed a package worth around £40 million with Southampton for Tino Livramento.
The Blues had an initial bid worth £80 million rejected for Caicedo earlier this week, but they have not given up their pursuit of the Ecuador international quite yet, according to the Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, a club from Saudi Arabia have reportedly joined the race for his signature, claim Sky Sports.
In a further blow to Mauricio Pochettino's transfer hopes, The Athletic report that an unnamed club are said to have submitted a bid worth more than Chelsea's.However, Newcastle may have given the west London club a significant boost in the transfer market.
Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas confirmed that Newcastle had agreed a £40m deal with Southampton for Livramento.
And that deal could prove very lucrative for Chelsea, who have a "big sell on clause bases on profit made", tweeted CBS journalist Ben Jacobs.
"Chelsea have a big sell on clause based on profit made – anything above the £4m Saints paid," he wrote. "Chelsea entitled to over 40% of total profit/close to £15m."It could be the extra cash Chelsea need to compete with the enormous wealth of the Saudi Pro League.
However, a report from the BBC confirmed that Brighton do not plan to sell the midfielder this summer, casting doubt over a move.
The publication reads: "Caicedo will still be at the club when the transfer window closes on 1 September."
