Nairobi County will dispose of some 292 unclaimed bodies from city public morgues within one week if they are not collected.
The County Secretary and head of county Public Service Jairus Musumba said members of the public have seven days to identify their kin.
The corpses presently lie at the Mama Lucy hospital (funeral home), Mbagathi hospital, and the City Mortuary.
“The following 28 unclaimed bodies are lying at Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital funeral home, 50 at Mbagathi funeral home, and 214 at the City Mortuary from the state of admission,” Musumba stated in the public notice.
“Interested members of the public are asked to identify and collect the bodies within seven days, failure to which Nairobi County will seek authority for disposal,” the public notice added.
All 292 bodies have been lying in the morgues with the status of their fingerprints indicating that they are untraced. This notice comes exactly three months after the county called upon the public to identify another 236 bodies that were lying in the public morgues. Most of the corpses were marked as unknown and were recovered by police without any form of identification documentation.
