Germany international Nadiem Amiri has sensationally turned down a move to Championship side Leeds United after he visited the club's training ground, as well as the city.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who currently plays for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, left Dusseldorf on a private jet on Monday to visit Leeds, according to a report from The Daily Mail.
In fact, Amiri visited the club's Thorp Arch training ground before holding talks with key figures at Elland Road after a £5 million fee was agreed between both clubs.
He was set to earn higher wages than he is currently on at Leverkusen and with his contract ending at the end of this season, it appeared to be a move that made sense.
But despite being spotted in the city centre with his family on Monday, it has now emerged that the former Hoffenheim player has turned down a move to Daniel Farke's side.Amiri, who was considered a key target by Leeds this summer, agreed personal terms with The Whites and had given his commitment about signing before changing his mind at the last moment, say German publication Kicker.
In addition to the above, Amiri had second thoughts about joining a Championship club following Leeds' poor start to the 2023/24 campaign that featured one win from four games.
He also had doubts over the move ahead of the birth of his first child, who will arrive in the next two weeks.Leeds are, however, close to bringing defender Djed Spence to Elland Road this summer.
The 23-year-old full-back, who joined Spurs from Middlesbrough last summer for a reported £20 million, will join Leeds on a season-long loan with no option to buy.
