Poran sees October 7 as a profound rupture in Israeli society following the unprecedented Hamas attack, which targeted civilians across generations. He argues that responsibility for the failures cannot be separated from the policies that preceded the attack, including the Netanyahu government's approach toward Hamas. Without political change, Poran sees little prospect of repairing relations between Israelis and Palestinians or creating the conditions for a lasting peace, which he regards as crucial to Israel's future.
