Liverpool have opened talks to sign Brazil starlet Andre Trindade, according to Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy.
The Reds' interest in the midfielder has developed relatively recently, with reports in Portugal claiming that Sporting Lisbon are keen to sign the 22-year-old midfielder, who started his career as a centre forward.
That is according to Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness), who are now reportedly out of the race due to Liverpool's interest.
His price tag was also said to be prohibitive, with Fluminense wanting €25 million to sell one of their star assets during this window. That would likely not be as major an issue for Liverpool, given the £40 million fee they received from Al Ittihad for the sale of Fabinho on Monday.
Reddy has confirmed on Twitter that Liverpool have now entered the race for Andre, and revealed how far they are along the line in making the deal happen.
Liverpool 'in talks' with Andre
Taking to the social media platform, the Sky Sports reporter revealed that, with negotiations ongoing for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, Liverpool are identifying alternatives. She wrote: "Liverpool have tabled an improved bid for Romeo Lavia, but are concurrently exploring a deal for other options - Andre of Fluminense among them - if Southampton's valuation remains excessive."
Afterwards, Reddy tweeted: "Liverpool have officially made contact with Fluminense over the possibility of signing midfielder Andre."A defensive midfielder by trade, Andre has been a key part of the Fluminense team and has already made over 100 appearances in all competitions since his debut in 2020.
He is also combative, picking up six yellow cards and one red card in 14 matches in 2023.
The 22-year-old earned a call-up to a depleted Brazil squad for their most recent set of international friendlies, making his senior debut off the bench during a 4-2 defeat against Senegal. He replaced West Ham's Lucas Paqueta.
