Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood could be playing alongside a former Liverpool star this season, with a club reportedly considering offering him a six-month loan.
Greenwood is currently looking for a move away from United after the club completed its internal investigation into his behaviour.
United have concluded that Greenwood will leave Old Trafford via mutual consent, with the possibility of a permanent or loan move on the table.
The 21-year-old was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of rape and assault, and was subsequently suspended by United.
He was charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in October.The charges were discontinued by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in February, who stated that a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant that there was 'no longer a realistic prospect of conviction'.
Since United's decision to allow Greenwood to leave, he has been linked with moves to various clubs across European and world football.
But after the Daily Mail claimed that Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq were willing to offer Greenwood a contract, their manager Steven Gerrard branded the reports as 'fake news'.
And according to Italian outlet Il Tempo (via Roma Press), Roma boss Jose Mourinho does not wish to associate himself with the forward after it was reported that the Serie A side 'would consider' signing him.
But one option may have become available for Greenwood.Now, according to i, Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas are ready to offer the 21-year-old a six-month loan deal.
If Greenwood does make the move, he would become team-mates with former Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who joined the club earlier this month following the expiry of his Reds contract.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made two appearances off the bench for his new club thus far as he looks to return to full fitness after a lack of regular football towards the end of his time at Anfield.
It is claimed that Besiktas 'have not been completely deterred' from a move for Greenwood, and are said to believe that a six-month deal could act as a 'litmus test of public feeling' before any commitment to a longer-term move.
The report also adds that it is thought that Besiktas would need to gain the consent of their women's team before a move is sanctioned.
