Mason Greenwood could reportedly earn £10 million a year if he leaves Manchester United for Saudi Arabia.
After months of speculation, it was confirmed on Monday afternoon that Greenwood and United have mutually agreed that the 21-year-old is to leave the club.
United released a statement which said: “All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United.
“It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.”Since the announcement, Greenwood has been linked with clubs around the continent and also in Saudi Arabia.
According to The Sun, clubs from the Saudi Professional League are interested in signing Greenwood.
Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq are one of the clubs interested, with them prepared to offer Greenwood a huge contract of £10 million a year.
So far this summer, Al Ettifaq have spent big to bring in the likes of Moussa Dembele, Jack Hendry and former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who is reportedly earning a whopping £700,000 per week.
Whilst speaking on Sky Sports, former United defender Gary Neville criticised the club for their handling of the whole situation.
He said: “I would say that the process in getting there has been pretty horrible.
“Manchester United, when you have significant situations and difficult situations like this, it requires strong and authoritative leadership. And that comes from the very top. Manchester United don't have that.”He added: “My issue is, on issues of this importance and severity, they should be dealt with independently by a panel, because it's been clear that Manchester United have not had the skill and the ability to deal with this situation properly.
“It's been well above their grade of experience and ability.”
