Presenter Mark Pougatch closed ITV's coverage of Arsenal's Community Shield win over Manchester City with a cheeky dig at Roy Keane.
The Gunners looked to be on the receiving end of their eighth successive defeat to Manchester City after Cole Palmer found the top corner with a sumptuous finish in the 77th minute.
However, Leandro Trossard stepped up in the 11th minute of added time to fire an effort goalwards. His shot took a wicked deflection and trickled past the despairing Stefan Ortega in goal, taking the game to penalties.
Missed penalties from Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri presented Fabio Vieira with the chance to win it for Arsenal, which he did so with aplomb, smashing the ball into the top left corner.But it is not the first time an Arsenal player with that surname has scored a penalty to win a trophy for the Gunners.
Back in 2005, Arsenal defeated a Manchester United team containing Roy Keane courtesy of a successful Patrick Vieira spot-kick in the penalty shootout.
And Pougatch was quick to remind Keane of that fact, making reference to Vieira's winning penalty against United nearly two decade ago when signing off at the end of the show.He said: “Vieira wins it from the spot against a Manchester team, we’ve heard that before! What’s it going to mean? We’ll find out, goodbye.”Keane sent a stoney-faced glare in his direction following his comment. Keane and Vieira shared a bitter rivalry back in their playing days, with the pair famously involved in a Highbury tunnel bust-up in 2005.
However, the duo look to have made up in more recent years, after Keane jokingly shadow boxed the former Arsenal captain on the Emirates pitch last season.
