Mason Mount's injury has thrown a spanner in Manchester United's transfer plans, it has been claimed.
According to the Telegraph, Mount is set to be sidelined for the next four to six weeks with his absence likely to have repercussions on the future of Scott McTominay at United.
Mount was substituted towards the end of United’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday with a hamstring injury and the publication has claimed that England international will be out until after September's international break.
A four-week lay-off would rule the midfielder, who was a £55million summer signing from Chelsea, out until September 19.In turn, Mount could miss United's visit to Brighton, in the club's first game after the internationals, as well as Erik ten Hag's side's first Champions League group game.
Mount will also miss Saturday's game against Nottingham Forest and a trip to Arsenal, eight days later.A longer absence could see Mount miss a further four matches, including United's encounters against Burnley and Crystal Palace, as well as the Carabao Cup third round and United's second Champions League group stage encounter.Though Mount has struggled to make an impact in the early stages of his United career, his injury will come as a blow to Ten Hag, given the club are already without another of his summer signings, Rasmus Hojlund.Mount's absence could also have implications on the future of McTominay, according to the Telegraph report, with the player having been linked with a move to Newcastle, West Ham and Inter Milan at various points this summer.
West Ham lodged a £30million bid for McTominay that fell some £10million short of United's valuation. Meanwhile Newcastle signed Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
Such moves have reduced the number of clubs whom McTominay may be open to joining or who could afford the Scotland international. And with Ten Hag already light in midfield following an ankle injury to Kobbie Mainoo and Fred's departure to Fenerbahce, he may look to keep McTominay beyond next week's transfer deadline.
