Manchester United have provided an injury update on new signing Rasmus Hojlund and Lisandro Martinez ahead of their clash against Tottenham.
The Red Devils got the new campaign underway with a 1-0 win over Wolves last weekend, courtesy of a Raphael Varane header.
However, the victory was by no means convincing, with Wolves dominating for large periods of the game. While the PGMOL have since confirmed that Gary O'Neil's side should have been awarded a penalty in the dying embers of stoppage time.
New signing Hojlund was unable to feature due to an injury he sustained during pre-season with Atalanta.
And the club have since provided an update on his recovery, revealing that he is "working hard. But Saturday's game against Tottenham looks to have come too soon.An official statement from the club website read: "Rasmus Hojlund is working hard to be in a position to make his debut after arriving from Atalanta but Saturday looks certain to come too soon for him."
Erik ten Hag provided a more encouraging update on Martinez, though, who was withdrawn at half-time against Wolves after picking up a suspected knock.
When asked if Martinez is available during his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag replied: "He was just training [on Thursday], so I think so. Yeah."Other players who are expected to miss out include youngsters Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo, who both picked up injuries during United's pre-season tour of the United States.
Goalkeeper Tom Heaton is also out for the the first few weeks of the campaign but Dean Henderson was fit enough to be on the bench against Wolves, deputising for Andre Onana.
Meanwhile, Anthony Martial is available to Ten Hag as an alternative to Marcus Rashford up front.
United also played a behind-closed-doors friendly with Everton on Tuesday to help improve match-fitness which Ten Hag explained proved "very helpful".
"I think it's very helpful to give players the minutes at the start of the season," he said. "To come back to 90 minutes after pre-season. It's not that we had a pre-season for six weeks. It was, more or less, four or five weeks.
"So we need such games to give all the players the opportunity to get into the season."
