Manchester United are lining up a shock move to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, according to a new report.
Mbappe's future has been one of the transfer sagas of the summer, after the France forward declined to extend his contract with the club beyond 2024.
That led to him being banished from training with the PSG first team, until he was restored following his side's 0-0 draw against Lorient on the opening weekend of the Ligue 1 season.
Inbetween, he was the subject of a world record £259 million bid from Al Hilal, while Chelsea and Liverpool were among the other clubs interested in him.
But Mbappe, who publicly made clear his desire to remain at PSG this season, rejected the Al Hilal approach, and is now preparing to spearhead the charge for Luis Enrique's side.However, a new report claims that United and one other club are battling it out for the forward.According to Spanish outlet Nacional, Mbappe has two options on the table - with one of those being United.It is claimed that his mother, who is also his agent, is preparing for January, when the forward will enter the final six months of his deal and will thus be able to negotiate pre-contract terms with another European club.
The report adds that United are lining him up to be their 'new franchise star' and attempt to topple the Premier League dominance of rivals Manchester City - and their offer is said to be on the table at the moment.
However, there may be other options on the table by the time January arrives, when more clubs may be able to complete a financial package for the PSG star.
It is claimed that Real Madrid, as of yet, have been unable to meet Mbappe's salary demands.
And concerns from the Spanish side of things have even reached popular talk show El Chiringuito, whose presenter Josep Pedredol claimed: "The Tic-Tac is over," in relation to the ticking clock graphic and iconic sound that appears on the show during high-profile transfer talks.
