Manchester United are keeping a close eye on a new anonymous X account leaking injury updates and news about the first team, a report has claimed.
It has been a tumultuous campaign on and off the pitch for United so far.
The Old Trafford club’s 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday meant that United had endured their worst-ever start to a season in the Premier League era.
Moreover, off the pitch, Erik ten Hag’s plans have been derailed by a series of injuries to first-team regulars alongside issues in Antony’s personal life and an ongoing feud with Jadon Sancho.
Amid the tumult, there have also been several ‘leaks’ of injury news and claims of dressing room unrest in the past few months.
And according to the Mail Online, United are now keeping tabs on a new anonymous account on X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter, which is leaking first-team injury news.
The account, said to have been created earlier this year, has quickly gained attention and a large following, having been accurate on several injury posts before United’s official confirmation.While the account no longer posts on match days, it most recently gave accurate updates on Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Sergio Reguilon’s respective injuries.The Mail Online claimed the account has raised suspicion at United, who believe it may be run by someone connected with the club who has access to confidential information. The club are said to be investigating the source of the leaks in an attempt to root out any moles.
There are allegedly several accounts monitored by United that routinely publish information about injuries and team selection, with the club believing they damage team unity and give the inside track on Ten Hag’s plans to opponents.
A club insider told the Mail Online: “Preparation for games these days is so thorough that leaked information about team line-ups and injuries can give the opposition an advantage to exploit.
“United fans should be hounding out these accounts that routinely leak this kind of information, and questioning what is their motivation for doing it.”
