Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Matheus Nunes from Wolves, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano giving it the "here we go" treatment.
City have been keen on the Portugal international and intensified efforts to sign him after Kevin De Bruyne picked up a hamstring injury which required surgery.Wolves played hardball and were holding out for at least £60 million for the midfielder. However, according to Romano, the two clubs have agreed an arrangement which will see Tommy Doyle head into the opposite direction.Once final details are completed, Nunes will become City's fourth signing this summer, following on from the captures of Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol and Jeremy Doku.
It had been reported that City were prepared to walk away from a deal for Nunes, but according to John Percy from The Telegraph, the 25-year-old is now expected to travel for a medical.It will be a club-record sale for Wolves, eclipsing the £47 million Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal paid to land skipper Ruben Neves earlier this summer.
Romano had said Doyle was heading to Molineux for a fee of £5 million - as well as a 50% sell-on clause - but David Ornstein of The Athletic claims that the England Under 21 international will join Gary O'Neil's side on loan with an option to buy.
City already had a verbal agreement with Nunes, who was desperate to move to the treble winners and did not turn up to training for two consecutive days in a bid to force the move."After the bid from Manchester City he decided it was best for him to not to be with the group," O'Neil said on Tuesday.
"The next few days will be key of course and conversations will take place that will be private between me and Matheus and I'm sure the situation will be resolved."
Nunes only joined Wolves last season in a record £38 million move, signing a five-year contract and making 41 appearances in all competitions.Meanwhile, Doyle, a boyhood City fan whose grandads both played for the club, spent last term on loan at Sheffield United alongside teammate James McAtee and helped them secure promotion to the Premier League.His long-time colleague Cole Palmer has been tipped for a move away from City after Chelsea added the 21-year-old to the list of attacking players being considered for their final addition ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.
