A man has died after he accidentally exploded himself in Athi River, Machakos County.
Machakos County police commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan said the welder died on the spot after an explosive-like device he was trying to weld exploded on him along Mombasa road at Devki area within Athi River sub-county on Tuesday, April 4.
"The man who attempted to weld an explosive-like device, a cylinder, around Devki stage in Athi River has been blown off," Napeiyan told the Star on the phone on Tuesday.
The incident happened at around 1.00 pm.
The incident attracted tens of passersby who milled around the scene to see what had happened.
The body was moved to Shalom Community Hospital morgue, Athi River.
Napeiyan said police have launched investigations into the incident.
