Magesi FC rose to the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings following a midweek round of fixtures played on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 October.
Magesi claimed pole position on the back of two results on Tuesday: their 1-1 draw away to Milford FC at Princess Magogo Stadium (in which the Stallions opened the scoring via Siphosethu Dlabi before Magesi’s equaliser from Tshepo Matsemela) and former leaders Orbit College suffering a 1-0 loss at Hungry Lions (with the hosts at GKW Park striking early via Raymond Daniels).
The combination of results saw Magesi move to 14 points – one ahead of Orbit, with Lions just two points further back in a tie for third alongside Maritzburg United, who claimed an emphatic 5-1 win over Venda FC at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Wednesday’s late kick-off.
Tuesday also saw Masindi Nemtajela score the only goal of the game as Marumo Gallants defeated NB La Masia in Vanderbijlpark.
Wednesday’s afternoon results were headlined by a 1-0 win for University of Pretoria in their derby against Pretoria Callies at the Soshanguve Giant Stadium, with Ayanda Mvambi netting the winner for AmaTuks.
Black Leopards surged into mid-table on the back of a 2-0 win over JDR Stars at Thohoyandou Stadium (with a brace from Bethuel Muzeu); Baroka FC and Upington City drew 1-1 at Global Stadium (respective goals from Sydney Malivha and Jabulani Ndebele); and Platinum City Rovers thrashed Casric Stars 3-0 in Vanderbijlpark via goals from Simphiwe Ndlovu, Siphosethu Mveni and Khethukuthula Zwane.
The MFC will continue this coming weekend, Friday 6 to Sunday 8 October, with a full round of fixtures before going into recess for the upcoming international break.
