Liverpool could be faced with the same obstacle that cost them the Moises Caicedo transfer in their bid to sign Jurgen Klopp’s top defensive target.
Earlier in the month, it was reported that Liverpool had agreed a British record £110 million with Brighton and Hove Albion for midfielder Caicedo.
However, the 21-year-old and his representatives were adamant that Chelsea was their preferred position, which left Liverpool red-faced.Liverpool later ended up losing both Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to the Blues.
Now, it has been reported that Liverpool are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, who has a market value of around £35 million.
According to journalist David Lynch, who tweeted: “Piero Hincapie is a player Liverpool have watched for some time & the player would jump at the opportunity to play in the premier league.
“There have been some suggestions of a high price tag but it is thought it could be pushed down if Liverpool firm up a move.”However, another huge obstacle is the fact that Hincapie is signed to the same agency as Caicedo, who proved to be difficult negotiators during the transfer saga.
After bringing in the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo, Liverpool are reportedly targeting a left sided defender and a versatile midfielder before the summer transfer window slams shut next Friday.Ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United, Klopp was asked whether he has enough defensive cover after it was revealed that Ibrahima Konate is a fitness doubt.
He said: “We have in an ideal world 8 centre-halves and I have no doubt about the quality of the boys.
“Quansah a super talented player. At this moment we are covered but it's not where you can be prepared for every situation. We will do our absolute best.”
