"Lifelong Newcastle fan Dan Burn scored a towering header for the Magpies in their Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
The 31-year-old defender, who started his youth career at Newcastle before spells in the Football League with Yeovil, Birmingham and Wigan, doubled Newcastle's lead in the 39th minute.
VAR took its sweet time to decide whether it was a goal or not as officials checked Bruno Guimaraes' positioning before crossing the ball.
But after what seemed like a lifetime, especially because the competition uses an automated system, St James' Park erupted once more after the referee pointed towards the centre circle.
After Miguel Almiron handed Newcastle an early lead with a cool finish, Eddie Howe's side deserved this one after dominating for large spells. That must have been a real 'pinch me' moment for Burn. Speaking back in February, the defender opened up about his “love” for Newcastle in an emotional interview.
"I started watching football just as Sir Bobby was at Newcastle. That’s sort of why I fell in love with football and fell in love with the club," Burn told NUFC TV.
“(They were) some great times, the Champions League nights... I've said in an interview before, he (Sir Bobby) felt like a member of the family who sort of meant that much to you.
"When he was sacked, I was gutted. Absolutely gutted. And probably never really got over it."It has been a memorable first-half for Newcastle fans. In the 17th minute, the ever-reliable Almiron opened the scoring with a wonderful side-footed finish.
Marquinhos' slack pass in his own half was headed down by Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak, who has been so decisive this season, punted a shot goalwards.
Gianluigi Donnarumma, to his credit, managed to parry away but the ball landed at the feet of Almiron, who slotted into the bottom left corner.
It was Newcastle’s first Champions League goal since Alan Shearer netted against inter Milan in the San Siro in 2003.
