Strathmore Leos put in a gutsy performance over the weekend to defeat Menengai Oilers 25-21 at Madaraka grounds here in Nairobi.
After their last fixture was ruled a walkover in favor of Blak Blad, the Louis Kisia charges needed a good response in order to keep in touch with the leading pack in hunt for the play off slots.
Kisia says it's always a heated affair whenever the two sides meet and he was pleased to this time be on the winning side.
"All the times we've played Oilers since I came to Leos, it's always been a touch affair. We've lost twice in our last three encounters and it was a bitter sweet revenge to win 25-21. We wanted to build on the momentum we got from the CUEA (Monks) win and against KCB the boys did well but it was unfortunate the result didn't go our way but the performance was exemplary.
"I've always told the boys good performance will bring good results and that's what happened in this match. We now hope to keep the momentum even as we travel to Kakamega this coming weekend to play the champions Kabras," assessed Kisia.
Elsewhere Blak Blad took the honours in the varsity derby with a 35-27 victory over Mean Machine at the Kenyatta University grounds.
Rock bottom Masinde Muliro recorded their maiden win of the season as they beat Homeboyz 21-10 at the Jamhuri Park grounds here in Nairobi to get to 7 points from the eight matches they have played so far, a point behind Mean Machine.
Inform Harlequins won their fifth consecutive match as they narrowly edged Nakuru RFC 22-21 at the Nakuru Athletic club with head coach Paul Murunga congratulating his team for sticking to their game plan to secure the vital win.
"It was a tough game against Nakuru considering they were at home and with huge fan backing but we stuck to our structures that had given us four consecutive wins and they worked. The team is in great shape right now and we hope to continue with the same record when we face Blak Blad this weekend."
It was a routine win for defending champions Kabras Sugar and KCB as they defeated Mwamba RFC and Catholic Monks respectively to keep their perfect record on eight wins in the opening eight matches of the season.
