Kenya Volleyball Federation president Waithaka Kioni is dead after a short illness in Nairobi.
The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK), where he served as the second vice chairman, confirmed that the official died on Sunday morning.
"We sadly announce the unfortunate and sudden passing on of our second vice-president and president of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF), the Late, Waithaka Kioni early this morning in Nairobi," said Nock President Paul Tergat in a statement.
Kioni was reportedly taken ill on Saturday before being rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed on April 9 at around 1 am.
"NOC-K is devastated by the loss of its executive member and an ardent volleyball sports leader over the years. We wish to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his immediate and extended family, friends and volleyball fraternity in Kenya and Africa for this loss," said Tergat.
"We are currently consulting with his family and the Volleyball Federation leadership and we will share more details later," said Tergat.
