The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union (KMPDU) has mourned former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha as a true visionary leader in the education and health sectors.
In a statement to newsrooms, KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atella said Magoha's contributions in the two sectors have had a lasting effect.
Magoha, a urologist by specialisation, died aged 71 at the Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday.
"Magoha upheld the medical profession and ensured there was harmony in the sector, including helping resolve payment of allowances for university dons. The medical profession has lost a great surgeon," said Davji.
He added; "He reformed institutions, established discipline, built infrastructure; from College of Health Sciences to Main campus to Medical Council, and to the education ministry. He instilled discipline in conduct of examinations. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones during this difficult time."
Last week, Magoha landed a job at Maseno University in Kisumu County as the Professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine.
