A man died on Saturday night after being hit by a vehicle while walking on the side of the road.
According to residents, Mr. John Muthii, a 43-year-old mechanic at Kagumo trading centre, was hit by a vehicle near Rwamuthambi bridge, along Karatina-Kerugoya road.
Officers from Sagana police post said that the driver of the vehicle drove off in a huff after the incident.
“The man died on the spot from injuries he sustained after being hit by the vehicle. It is our understanding that the pedestrian was walking on the left side of the road, heading towards Karatina general direction when he was knocked down,” said the police.
Kagumo boda boda operators led Humpley Maina Muriuki have asked the authorities to erect speed bumps on the stretch near the bridge to avert accidents and deaths.
“This area has become more of a black spot. Let us have the speed bumps, otherwise many lives will still be lost in the future,” said Maina.
According to the residents, one week hardly passes without an accident occurring along the stretch.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Kerugoya hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
