Lady golfer Mary Kikuvi hit 44 points to emerge as the overall winner at the Minet corporate golf tournament held at the Par 72 Karen Country Club on Friday.
Playing off a 27 handicap, the Machakos golf club based golfer got off to a fiery start hitting 23 points in the first nine.
She, however, dropped a few points in the back nine but was able to hit 21 points to manage an overall score of 44.
The Minet Corporate Golf Day is an annual event by the Minet Group which aims at bringing together clients, industry peers and Minet staff for a full-day golf tournament aimed at fostering positive client and industry relations.
This year, the event attracted 200 golfers who competed in various categories, including the title of the Overall Best Golfer.
The event was part of the group’s celebration of 75 years in operation and coincidentally came during the customer service week.
Kikuvi expressed her joy of clinching the title but added that the grass was a bit quick and somewhat difficult.
"I truly had fun on the golf course. The course was in great condition though the grass was a bit quick and difficult," Kikuvi said.
Fred Chege won the overall men’s title after combining 23 points in the first and 19 in the back for 42 points in total.
The insurance industry overall winner was bagged by Jonah Tomno who scored 40 points followed closely by Nick Malesi with 39 points.
The staff winner was won by Tobias Gitonga who scored 33 points whereas the guest winner was won by Agnes Muchemi with 44 points and Mary Wainaina as the runners up with 41 points.
Minet Group CEO Joe Onsando said the event's purpose was to bring clients and the company together for a fun-packed day of golf to foster good relations.
"Mainly it’s an occasion for us to get our clients together, have fun and play during the day and also discuss and tell them what the organization is about and where it’s going," Onsando said.
He added that this year’s tournament was based on environmental sustainability and dealing with climate change.
"This year’s tournament was special as it centered on the theme of environmental sustainability, 'Think Green - Putting the Planet First', highlighting Minet’s commitment to sustainable business and ESG practices,”
"Minet’s sustainability mission is further amplified by its commitment to plant 500,000 trees in the next five years and its participation as a signatory in the UN Global Compact, all aimed at creating a positive environmental impact,” he added.
