St Christopher's Nanyuki coach Ali Omari has expressed confidence the swimmers selected from the Mount Bloc will do the country proud at the Kampala invitational swimming championship later this month.
Omar was bullish on the chances of his young charges ahead of the three-day championship in Uganda
"This is a product of the hard work the coaches and swimmers put in despite the various challenges we faced in the buildup. I am really pleased with what we have achieved and the sky is no doubt the limit for these swimmers even as thy start preparing for Uganda."
St. Christopher's School, Nanyuki continued with their fine form to defend the overall championship title in Thika after collecting total points of 605 points followed by Loreto Convent Valley Road, who secured a second spot with 410 points. Crawford International School finished third with 403 points.
Several countries have intensified their preparations having already done their qualifying events for the regional tourney. Besides Kenya, the event has attracted hosts Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The Kampala event will be a curtain-raiser for the Hamilton Sizzler Swimming Championships in Dubai in June.
According to organizers, the tournament is designed to provide the right level of competition to swimmers.
The event also seeks to support the development of the upcoming swimmer.
According to KSF Kiambu branch chairman, Nesmus Mbati, the county has embarked on an ambitious project to spread the sport to public schools in the county as the federation has sponsored five galas in a bid to nurture swimming talents in the area.
“We are trying our best to make this dream possible for the children in Kiambu including those from Kiandutu Slums in Thika and crime-prone areas. For the few that participate in our galas, it is clear that there is massive potential which if properly tapped and managed, will make the country proud," added Mbati.
