Wambua, who appeared before the Milimani court on Wednesday, emphasized his urgent need for the funds to cover the dowry for his fiancée, with the ceremony scheduled for Friday.
EACC is currently conducting an investigation into Wambua, an accountant at the roads agency, who is facing allegations of corruption and money laundering.
“We ask the court to vacate the preservation Orders that were granted and the respondents pay dowry on Mashujaa Day and the wife gets a husband without the EACC disturbances,” Wambua said through his lawyer.
In refuting the allegations, Wambua informed the court that the disputed funds were collectively contributed by his friends totaling 900 through the social media platform WhatsApp.
“The accounts were to be closed after four months upon completion of the dowry payment. These accounts had people contributing through Mpesa by forming a WhatsApp group as attached of over 900 people,” Wambua said.
While the EACC alleges that the money was acquired through fraudulent means, citing Wambua’s supposed Sh35,000 monthly salary, Wambua contested this assertion, clarifying that his actual salary amounts to Sh170,000.
He further defended the legitimacy of his wealth, pointing out that he possesses a fixed account containing Sh5 million.
During its initial investigations, the EACC revealed that Wambua had accumulated the illicit funds over a span of four years.
