YouTuber and online influencer Just Ivy, real name Ivy Mugo, has created a buzz online after she asked her followers to share their payslips.
On her Instagram stories, Ivy, a member of the all-female Over 25 YouTube group, has been sharing payslips of anonymous followers, most of whom are earning exceedingly well.
Renowned for being a financial head and the go-to person for matters money, Ivy has left most of her over 230K followers - as well as a few Kenyans on Twitter (KoT) - in shock at just how handsomely paid some Kenyans are.
For example, a sale consultant with six years experience revealed that they were earning Ksh.564K, with a whopping Ksh.161K going to PAYE and at least Ksh.2K going to NSSF and NHIF.
Another employee, an investment manager with 12 years experience, revealed that they earn a basic salary of Ksh.830K, and after deductions, which are hefty, they're left with a net pay of Ksh.550K.
A senior software engineer working for two fintech companies revealed that they were earning a gross salary amounting to Ksh.1.2 million and, after taxation, they normally take home Ksh.903K.
The revelations have left many of Ivy's followers in shock, with a number of Kenyans expressing mixed reactions.
One employee, a doctor, shared their payslip saying, "Hi, just seen the payslips you shared. Waah. People are remunerated really well. I'm a medical doctor. I work at a big private hospital and I earn Ksh.153,000 net. 5 year experience. Working 5 days a week, 10 hour shifts. Wow. Doctors are really shortchanged. "
While most of the responders were sharing heavy payslips, some other Kenyans who were not necessarily earning very hugely also sent in their salaries.
At the end of it all, Ivy paused the activities and dropped a few nuggets of salary info to her followers.
"Movers, let's leave it at that today. For those who were bold enough to share genuine payslips (especially those that I know personally) thanks," she said.
"Pay attention to pension, negotiate full packages not just take home salaries, talk to each other about your pay to avoid being short changed, when negotiating, talk net not gross (and) check that your NSSF etc is actually being paid out."
