The Kenyan Wheelchair Basketball Federation has organized a road walk from Kijabe to Eldoret from 20-25 February for a charitable cause.
Caroline Wanjira who is the treasurer of the federation has requested for more sponsors to come on board to support them in this kind venture to help them accomplish their aim.
The federation will involve only five of its players for the road walk and who have been sponsored by BethanyKids from Kijabe which is a compassionate Christian mission transforming the lives of African children with surgical conditions and disabilities through pediatric surgery, rehabilitation, public education, spiritual ministry and training health professionals.
BethanyKids also works to remove barriers that can block disabled people from being fully independent and included in their communities.
"Bethany has been with us since we started planning this event and they will be with us from Kijabe to Eldoret.
“We have decided that even if more sponsors and partners have not come forward to help us, we will go on with the walk although we still hope that there are those who will hear our cry and join us because it's not yet late,” Wanjira said.
Wanjira added that it has been difficult for them to register participants because of the burden of facilitating everything for every participant.
We have requested the Member of Parliament, Westlands Constituency Hon. Wetangula, Timothy Wanyonyi and honorable David Sankok come to flag off the event but we are still waiting for their response,” Wanjira added.
The theme for the wheelchair walk dubbed “The Great Wheel’ is ‘Get Appropriate Wheelchair For Everyone’ and it's being held to create awareness on appropriate wheelchairs.
