Kenya Red Cross has condemned the killing of four South Sudanese volunteers who were killed on February 2 in Kajo-Keji unit in South Sudan.
In a statement released by South Sudan Red Cross, the four were picked from their houses and killed.
They were at the forefront of mobilising community members to vaccinate against Covid-19, create awareness against Ebola, provide first aid services and restore family links of people separated from their loved ones.
South Sudan Red Cross secretary general, John Lobor, said they condemn the act of killing humanitarian workers.
“We condemn this act of killing humanitarian workers and call on the authorities to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” Lobor said.
He also said the Red Cross and all humanitarian workers should be respected.
“We also call on all armed actors to respect Red Cross and other humanitarian workers who tirelessly assist people in need across the country,” he said.
They also sent their condolences to the families of community members, and those who lost their lives and provided body bags to help them in burials.
Kenya Red Cross has also sent its condolences to the affected families.
