Kenya Power plans to set up a 15MVA, 132/33kV substation to boost the quality of power supply within Tharaka Nithi County.
This follows the donation of a three-acre piece of land by Tharaka Nithi governor Muthomi Njuki.
The substation will facilitate a new power line for Kathwana and its surroundings and host a yard for storage of poles and other equipment that is critical for electricity connectivity within the county.
“The land we have donated to Kenya Power belongs to the County Government of Tharaka Nithi.” said Njuki.
He said they plan to stabilise power supply within the county through a collaborative approach.
This he said would power the county’s Aggregation and Industrial Park and help spur economic growth.
Kenya Power said it plans to work with counties to increase access to electricity an in turn drive economic transformation and improve livelihoods.
“We will engage all the counties across the entire country so that we can identify the areas of challenges and possible opportunities to better our partnership for improved service delivery,” said Joseph Siror the Managing Director and CEO.
Kenya Power earlier on said that they are working to restore normalcy within the shortest flowing a technical hitch on its pre-paid electricity token payment platform.
