Kenya Power has advertised the position of Managing Director, welcoming interested and qualified individuals to apply.
The power utility firm said the holder of the MD and Chief Executive Officer's office must have a Bachelor's Degree from a recognised institution.
They should also hold a Master's Degree and have at least 15 years of experience, five of which should have been at the level of senior management.
The firm is seeking a new CEO at a time when it is pushing for higher power tariffs to turn around its fortunes after years of loss-making.
Interested candidates have until February 24 to submit their applications.
Geoffrey Waswa Muli was named acting MD in May 2022, replacing Rosemary Oduor, who had also been acting in the same capacity since August 2021.
The firm, in appointing Muli, had said Oduor was proceeding on annual leave amid reports of a fallout with the board on the running of the company.
Muli is an insider who, prior to his appointment, was the acting general manager in charge of regional coordination at Kenya Power.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (Strategic option) and is currently pursuing a PhD in the same field.
“Kenya Power has appointed Eng Geoffrey Waswa Muli as acting managing director with effect from 17th May 2022 in place of Eng Rosemary Oduor, who was serving in an acting capacity,” Kenya Power said then, in a statement.
Oduor took over from Bernard Ngugi, who also resigned abruptly in 2021, two years into his tenure.
Ngugi was the fourth CEO in four years to exit the firm amid a boardroom fallout that came months after the court dismissed a petition to remove him over past procurement issues.
He had come under pressure from the board and shareholders over turnaround plans amid a streak of losses at the utility.
Ngugi, who had worked at the firm for over 32 years, took over from Jared Othieno, who had been the acting CEO since July 2018 following the exit of the former chief executive Ken Tarus.
Tarus resigned after he was charged in court with conspiring to commit an economic crime and abuse of office.
