The Kenya Aquatics Stabilisation Committee will stage a stakeholders forum at Moi Stadium, Kasarani on Saturday aimed at unlocking the ongoing impasse.
Stabilisation Committee team leader Michael 'Tank' Otieno said the meeting will give direction on the new election date.
"The meeting will discuss all the options available to conduct the polls as well as look at the latest report from the Registrar of Sports in terms of counties and clubs enlisted for the exercise,” said Otieno, adding that Committee members Moses Mwose of Uganda and Jace Naidoo of South Africa will be in attendance.
Saturday's meeting comes two weeks after another such gathering where Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba demanded that the stakeholders put their house in order — in line with a World Aquatics directive issued in August requiring the country to host the polls by next month.
Otieno said they are walking a tightrope, where the country stares at a World Aquatics ban if the elections abort again.
"We have been given a second chance and I believe the message to the fraternity and everyone is clear. We need to conduct credible free, and fair elections,” added Otieno.
Nairobi County Association chairman Teddy Wamunyu believes the biggest stumbling block is a court case lodged by Margaret Mwasha and Conrad Thorpe.
The two went to the high court in March 2021, accusing Kenya Swimming Federation, Sports Kenya, the Sports Registrar, and the Attorney General for violating the KSF constitution.
"As long as the petitioners continue with the court case, I don't see how the elections will be held since there are chances that the results of the polls will be nullified by the courts," added Wamunyu.
Mwasha and Thorpe sought clarification on the voting process, whether to use universal suffrage — where athletes participate in the polls — or whether the delegate system will be used.
