Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua has responded to Interior CS Kithure Kindiki after sending investigators to Chuka.
According to Karua, the government needs to build on a culture of respecting people's right to picket.
She said the role of the police in such situations should only be ensuring law and order.
Karua said if this is done without forcibly trying to stop demonstrations, then life and property will be protected.
"We must nurture a culture of respecting the right to demonstrate peacefully, where the sole duty of the police is to ensure law & order instead of forcefully breaking the demonstration. It’s the sure way to preserve life and protect property," she said.
On Saturday, Kindiki dispatched an investigative team to Chuka, Tharaka Nithi County following the death of two people.
The CS said the team will investigate and recommend legal action against those found responsible for the death of the two people.
"The death of the two people caused the blocking of the Embu- Meru Highway most of the afternoon today. Any person(s) at whom evidence will point shall face the course of justice," he said.
He urged residents to remain calm and allow investigations following which prosecution shall ensue.
