Residents of Kilo in Kajiado have raised concerns over the state of KPLC poles supplying electric power to a local borehole.
The poles that carry electric power to the community borehole and a local primary school have been hanging for the last year.
An evangelist, Nackson Letuati said that if the area has been receiving rain, all the KPLC poles would have come down.
The situation as it is now, Letuati said, is compromising the safety of the school-going children and community members.
Most of the poles made of trees have been eaten from the bottom by ants and have gaping holes causing them to hang precariously above the ground.
“These poles are carrying high voltage and the way they are hanging is pausing danger to livestock and school-going children,” Letuati said.
Some of the KPLC posts seen by the Star have been patched with pieces of corrugated iron sheets to cover the holes made by white ants.
Nairobi South KPLC regional manager Haron Wambugu said he is acting on the reported case and that he had already contacted the necessary office for action.
“Thank you for alerting me, I have taken the necessary action on the matter,” Wambogo told the Star.
