Kabras RFC captain Dan Sikuta has twisted the knife on the back of KCB RFC after they raided the bankers' vault to make away with cherished points.
What made the defeat more painful for the Bankers was that they were demolished at their won backyard, The Lion's Den, with visiting Kabras savaouring a sweetly-cherished 29-23 victory.
And in a post-match refection, Kabras keyman Dan Sikuta has wasted no time to gloat, noting that the conquest "was no fluke", while attributing their good run in the Kenya Cup to execution of the training drills in live matches, noting that their goal is to end the regular season unbeaten.
“We stuck to what we have been working on and planning as a team and the result has shown what we’ve been doing behind the scenes,” he said, “We just need to focus on the next game against the Oilers [Menengai] so that we can be at the top of the table come the playoffs and we shall then turn to the playoffs, a game at a time.”
Lat term Kabras dethroned KCB to win the coveted title and Sikuta reckons their good performances are down to sheer hard work, and resolve, and not luck.
“It’s not a luck charm, we've been working on it. Our defense structure has been there and it’s working, definitely there were some errors we need to go and polish as we move on.”
Kabras were quick off the blocks on Saturday at the Lion’s den as the evergreen Ntabeni Dukisa chalked in their first three points following a drop goal in the early exchanges and then quickly extended their lead after brilliant play by Jone Kubu gave the sugar men their first try of the match which Dukisa successfully converted for a 10-0 lead.
Two rapid penalty goals from Dukisa stretched Kabras’ lead to 16-0, a show of clear intent of underlining their title credentials against their bitter rivals at their own backyard.
KCB’s Darwin Mukidza then hit back with a brace of drop goals to bring back the bankers to the game with Curtis Lilako’s try and Mukidza's subsequent conversion putting KCB to the lead for the first time.
After that it was a two-man show as Mukidza and Dukisa traded penalty goals, with the mercurial Jone Kubu and Jean Musonga scoring a try each as Kubu converted for a 29-23 win.
Elsewhere third-placed Oilers sent a message to KCB and Kabras that the play-off season won’t be a ride in the park as they recorded a huge 55-05 victory over Catholic Monks.
In-form Kenya Harlequins continued their hot streak in the league with their seventh consecutive win, as they overcame Mwamba 22-11 with Strathmore Leos and Blak Blad toppling their university rivals Mean Machine and Masinde Muliro respectively.
Nakuru were the other winners of the weekend as they beat up the Homeboyz deejays at the Nakuru Athletic Club.
