Lionel Messi has made a successful start to life at Inter Miami following his summer switch from Paris Saint-Germain - but the GOAT is poised to be missing from some games for his new club in the not too distant future.
The 36-year-old left the French capital after two seasons to move to the MLS and Florida to play for Inter Miami, which is co-owned by former Manchester United winger David Beckham.
The star is in the closing stages of his career after winning everything there is to in his club career, much of which was spent with Barcelona, where he came through the youth team ranks at.Messi has already claimed silverware with his new club, helping Inter Miami win the Leagues Cup with a penalty shootout victory over Nashville SC, which is the Florida side's first ever trophy.
The Argentina international is in another final too having helped the Herons beat FC Cincinnati on penalties to reach the US Open Cup finale where they will play the Houston Dynamo.
Messi has also finally made his MLS debut recently, having come off the bench after an hour to score in a 2-0 victory over New York Red Bulls.
After the game, Inter Miami head coach Tara Martino confirmed that the Florida club will have to get used to winning without Messi, however, as the attacker will get called up to play for the Argentina national team at times while the US side's schedule will continue without him and others selected for international duty.Speaking to USA Today, Martino said: "The importance is that we value winning and winning this way because it's something we have to get accustomed to. Leo is gonna miss at least three games."He's gonna get called up by his national team and others too. We know that the team has to continue to win without them at times."
Messi is poised to feature in Argentina's upcoming World Cup qualifiers versus Ecuador and Bolivia in September, which will see him miss Inter Miami's games against Los Angeles FC, Kansas City and Atlanta United.
