Thika Queens Team Manager Glenstone Muganga fears the growing list of injuries in the team could slow them down further, in their Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) title hunt.
Striker Wendy Achieng, Linda Ajwang and Juliet Andibo are some of they players who have been injured.
In particular, he has blamed their last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Bunyore Starlets on a depleted squad, saying the coach has few options in every department.
Substitute striker Linda Ajwang is the latest to get injured in the squad after she suffered a first half knee injury in Mumboha Grounds in the match against Bunyore.
She had come on to replace league’s top scorer Wendy Achieng who is also out injured, after suffering a head concussion in their encounter with Trans Nzoia Falcons two weeks ago.
“Wendy is still out and we are waiting for the doctor’s report next week so that we can ascertain when she can be available, but we also suffered another injury with Linda Ajwang who had come on as Wendy’s replacement getting injured in the early minutes of the game,” said Muganga
Muganga however believes with focus, the reserve players can step up and steady the club’s march to the title.
Queens will be hosting Kisumu All Starlets this weekend in Thika and Muganga admits it will be a tough test.
“We are working with the available players, instilling confidence in them ahead of the Kisumu clash, we cannot afford to underrate them with the current state we are,” observed Muganga.
After 13 matches, Thika are third on the log with 25 points, three adrift joint leaders Vihiga Queens and Gaspo Women.
